OKLAHOMA CITY (April 25, 2008) – Public transportation in downtown Oklahoma City took a giant step into the future today with the official launch of the Oklahoma River Cruises, a ferry service that spans a 7-mile section of the Oklahoma River.
Rick Cain, Director of Public Transportation & Parking "The new river cruisers represent an extraordinary opportunity for METRO Transit to further meet the City of Oklahoma City's transit needs. The new service will provide an important transportation link between the Meridian corridor and downtown Oklahoma City, support further river development and provide an entertaining travel option."
Tickets to ride the Devon Discovery and the Devon Explorer can be purchased for around $9 for an adult one-way trip at one of two boarding locations: Regatta Park, located at 725 S. Lincoln Blvd, and the Meridian Landing, near S.W. 15th and Meridian. An adult round-trip ticket is $12. Discounted rates are available for children and seniors.
The service is available Wednesday through Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. For those taking one-way cruises, trolley service is available on the Oklahoma Spirit Trolleys. Each River Cruiser can hold up to 40 passengers.
Group rates and special Theme Cruises are also available. For schedules, full rates and more information on the Oklahoma River Cruises please visit www.okrivercruises.com or call 702.7755.
Oklahoma City River Redevelopment Authority Chairman and Former Mayor Ron Norick "Devon Energy continues to be a wonderful community partner in the development and launch of the Oklahoma River Cruises. We could not have placed this system into service without their substantial assistance."
The Oklahoma River Cruises were made possible through the generous support of Devon Energy as well as the dedication of the Oklahoma Riverfront Redevelopment Authority and the City of Oklahoma City.
